Our client, a leader in the chemical industry, with over 100, 000 employees, and a presence in most countries worldwide, is seeking a PATENT COUNSEL for their North Carolina Office.

As Patent Counsel, you will be responsible For a broad range of Intellectual Property services targeted to North America.

Your responsibilities will include:

Contract and Transactional Work; Building of Patent Assets; Other IP-Related Legal Matters and Counselling

In particular you will be responsible for:

TRANSACTIONAL WORK:
- Acting as lead attorney in negotiating, drafting, interpreting and implementing various plant biology/biotech agreements dealing with IP (includes: licensing, limited use sales, materials transfer, technology transfer, experimental trials and testing)

PATENT CREATION WORK:
- Creating and implementing appropriate global patent strategies for the protection of innovations on behalf of the company
- Working in coordination with global patent teams
- Taking on a leadership role with respect to innovations arising from in-house research and collaborative efforts and innovations targeted primarily for the North American Markets

GENERAL IP RELATED WORK:
- Providing day-to-day IP guidance to North American Research and Development; General Legal, Tax, Marketing and Business Functions to both line management and senior management
- Patentability, validity, infringement, freedom-to-operate opinions
- IP due diligence in support of acquisitions, divestitures and other transactions
-IP Litigation support working in conjunction with litigation team and global patent team
- Provide IP training to client base in coordination with other members of the North American patent department and other patent departments
- Management of IP Strategy for select corporate alliances

Requirements:

You are the ideal candidate if you:

- JD Degree
- Registered US Patent Attorney
- Minimum 5 YEARS of PATENT application drafting and prosecution experience in molecular biology and biotechnology arts
- 8 + YEARS experience in Biotech IP Transactional work (Including: Technology transfer; licensing; joint collaboration; development, acquistion and other complex agreements with a signficant IP component) and IP due diligence in relation therewith
- IP/ Technical Background in either, Plant Science, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or Related Life Sciences Field
