Our client, a reputable insurance company is seeking to add an Associate Vice President for their Legal Department. Combining your insurance defence/personal injury and business acumen, to operationalize the strategies for the Company�s Claims and Customer Service Operation.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Managing the Company�s Trial/Appeal Management program including trial Committees for all the functional Claims teams
- Monitoring case load and case assignments
- Identifying and developing trial strategies with claims handlers and counsel
- Monitoring conduct of trials and providing counsel and direction as required; leading debriefing sessions following each trial to identify lessons learned
- Participating in Claims Management meetings and providing technical support and guidance in development of strategies and protocols to improve the company�s claims handling and litigation management
- Implementing litigation management initiatives as determined by the SVP; Making recommendations to the SVP via analysis of current information to determine how to improve litigation management
- Determining the capacity and capabilities needs and expertise across the Legal Department, for current and future state
- Guiding the hiring and personal development of staff, including dealing with performance issues, assessing and evaluating performance and supporting career planning
- Setting objectives, assessing performance, and evaluating talent for all members of the legal team, balancing the overall needs of the Company�s business with unique and complex professional development requirements of lawyers, paralegals and assistants

- Honour�s Bachelors Degree
- Law Degree (LLB)
- Admittance to the Bar
- Extensive claims legal technical knowledge
- Strong knowledge of Canadian legal environment
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills
- Demonstrated track record for developing efficient and effective processes in order to enhance delivery and ensure that goals and targets are met on a consistent basis
- Deep understanding of legislation in all aspects
- Good understanding of Insurance business lines is desired
- Proven experience leading legal practices/legal teams
- Previous working experience as a senior counsel: experience in corporate environment would be advantageous
