An exciting opportunity to join a collaborative, dedicated and well regarded legal team!

Our client, a reputable U.S. Financial Institution, is currently seeking a Managing Associate General Counsel to join its Litigation group, which handles mortgage defaults and real estate owned legal matters.

Role and responsibilities:

-Review and advise on federal, state and local legislation impacting default mortgage servicing, foreclosures and related activities
-Work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the company
-Manage litigation, claims and disputes 
with respect to the organization's single-family mortgage loan and real estate owned assets portfolios
-Develop and maintain subject matter expertise, advise business’ management, and interact with relevant third parties as the company's advocate on legal issues impacting mortgage defaults
-Manage internal legal teams (junior attorneys, legal analysts, legal administrative coordinators and additional contract staff), including overseeing external law firms retained to provide legal services and delegating a wide variety of matters to staff
-Mentor, coach and guide attorneys and staff members
-Maintain regular contact among peers within the firm and externally, including regulators and professional organizations
-Provide advice to internal clients on the legal implications of business trends, issues, operating environment changes and firm or business unit strategy
-Respond to a broad assortment of client personnel seeking legal advice and counseling with respect to default mortgage servicing, foreclosures and related activities, real estate owned disposition, vendor relations

Requirements:

-JD from an accredited law school with at least 15 or more years of experience in the practice of law
-Strong knowledge of and substantial involvement in litigation and real estate owned legal issues including the foreclosure laws of all 50 States and various US territories, residential mortgage consumer protection laws, bankruptcy laws impacting residential mortgages, single family servicing, fraud, real property contract disputes, title and casualty insurance claims, environmental liabilities, housing and code enforcement issues, and protected class and discrimination matters
-Experience managing outside counsel
-Able to supervise junior attorneys
-Able to adapt to change and demonstrate leadership
-Strong interpersonal skills, able to get buy-in from colleagues and implement change management with diplomacy and ease
-Proactive and ability to analyze diverse problems
-Experience negotiating with customers or management or attempting to influence management regarding matters of significance to the organization
-Experience with corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria of projects and programs
-Excellent English oral and written communication skills
-Eligibility to work in the U.S.
