Our client, a Real Estate company with a significant interest in technology is expanding. They are looking to add a General Counsel to their Toronto Team.

Reporting to the President, as General Counsel you will provide high-quality legal advice, research and opinions on day to day matters and complex transactions. In addition to your legal expertise, you will be applying your leadership and strategic thinking skills to help guide the organization forward through a period of change and rapid growth.


The role will include:
• Providing expert and strategic legal advice to management on a wide range of legal matters including corporate commercial, contracts, real estate, employment, and acquisitions.
• Drafting and reviewing various agreements and participating in negotiations
• Keeping abreast of, and reviewing new or changed legislation and determining its impact on the business
• Setting internal governance policies and managing the impact of external factors
• Anticipating issues and risks, and strategically identifying proactive solutions that will eliminate or mitigate risks
• Interacting with external parties including all key stakeholders to the business
• Dealing with complex, significant matters that span both legal and related business areas

Requirements:

You are the ideal candidate if you:

• Have an LL.B/ JD, and are a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada
• Have 6+ years of relevant experience in a Corporate Counsel role or in private practice
• Have experience advising management on all legal aspects of a business
• Have exceptional negotiation, decision-making, and analytical skills
• Are able to successfully partner with various business units to achieve results.
• Are extremely well-organized with strong communication, and excellent interpersonal skills
• Are a dynamic leader with the ability to provide strong proactive support and strategic direction on all Legal matters to the executive team
• Are comfortable driving change through the organization
• Have a proven ability to develop and implement legal strategies and solutions
• Are self-motivated, resourceful, and innovative
• Are a strong team player who engenders trust and adapts quickly to changing conditions
• Are able to organize, multitask and focus on complex concepts despite shifting priorities


• Experience in any of the following areas would be an asset:
o Real Estate, appraisal, or mortgage industry
o Private equity and/or M&A
o Titles and leasing

• Proficiency in French and/or Spanish will be considered an asset
