Our client, a downtown Toronto law firm, is seeking an experienced and management-oriented individual with a solid background as a law clerk to join its Corporate Services Department as Manager.

This position is primarily a management position with some clerking/docketing duties. The focus for the successful candidate will be providing exceptional client service from the Corporate Services Department to the firm's internal and external clients along with looking for ongoing efficiencies in the delivery of these services.

This position is ideal for a current senior Manager looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to work with a great team in a supportive firm environment. Similarly, this position might be appropriate for a Corporate Lawyer with hopes of flourishing their people and process management abilities in a transition to a new role.

- Responsible for the overall management of the Corporate Services Department, including Corporate Law Clerks, Corporate Searchers and Corporate Services Assistants and all of their work-related
activities.

-Assessing department practices, processes and precedents to improve efficiencies and look for continuous improvement.

-Review and implement technological solutions to delivery of services for internal and external clients, as it relates to Corporate Services.

-Ongoing training, skill assessment and mentoring of the team to ensure continuous development and consistency in work product.

-Co-ordination of work flow to the clerks, through availability, skill set / development, and monitoring of billable and non-billable hours on a regular basis.

-Mentoring and ongoing development of all department staff, including regular meetings, employee relations and performance management.

-Review and manage corporate records and databases ensuring that these are maintained, up-to-date and used effectively.

-Work with lawyers in the firm to review, analyze and research corporate federal and provincial legislation amendments to acts and regulations and update corporate precedents accordingly.

-Perform a variety of complex and more routine corporate legal duties as required.

Requirements:

-A minimum of ten years' previous experience working in a mid- to large law firm or equivalent experience with a focus on Corporate law

-Previous management experience is a requirement

-Extensive knowledge of applicable Ontario and Federal legislation governing corporations and partnerships, including not for profit

-Experience in documenting and implementing simple and complex corporate reorganizations and transactions

-Excellent communication and team building skills

-Ability to prioritize, multi-task and handle a fast paced work environment

-Experience working in corporate databases, preferably EnAct

-Exposure to OnCorp and Cyberbahn would be an asset

-Diploma in Law Clerk studies or equivalent from an accredited Ontario College

-Exceptional written and oral communication skills

-Independent thinker and problem solver

-Ability to take initiative, prioritize and multitask

-A strong team player with a client service orientation

-Strong technical skills using MS Office 2013
