Our client, a large investment management organization is expanding their legal team. They are looking to add a Manager, Legal to their Toronto Team to provide support on a wide range of legal matters.

Reporting to the Director, Legal you will work closely with senior leadership and business units to help them navigate, understand and comply with legal and regulatory requirements.

The role will involve:
• Supporting complex cross-enterprise projects requiring legal advice and guidance;
• Providing advice and assessing legal risk in connection with internal policies, standards and governance framework;
• Supporting coordination and delivery of internal legal training program;
• Advising on governing legislation to support various enterprise related initiatives;
• Providing advice and assessing legal risk on commercial contracts;
• Providing advice and guidance to external counsel and investment teams on material issues under investment-related non-disclosure agreements and engagement letters;
• Providing advice and support for organizational treasury functions, including debt issuance programs;
• Providing advice and general support in connection with the oversight and maintenance of corporate subsidiaries;
• Generally assisting on other legal matters as they arise.

Requirements:

You are the ideal candidate if you have:
• LL.B./ JD
• 2 to 5 years of relevant legal experience in a sophisticated corporate/commercial private practice at a major law firm or an in-house corporate legal department, including experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements
• A willingness to lead, create new ideas, and be assertive
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to work cooperatively with many different stakeholders and ability to manage outside counsel
• Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
• Strong organizational skills; flexible, adaptable, and able to manage ambiguity and multiple projects
• Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently with minimal supervision
