This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced real estate lawyer or notary seeking to work In House at a well established and entrepreneurial company and utilize their expertise outside of private practice in an engaging position that offers work-life balance. This successful candidate can work from home or from the office. The position can be either full time (40 hours) or a reduced schedule (with hours spread over 4-5 days/week).

Our client, a privately held mortgage financing company is seeking an In House Counsel or Notary for its Montréal office. This position reports directly to the President and this individual will work in a very collegial and dynamic work environment that offers autonomy, file management, significant client contact, and a hands-on approach in a professional business context.


Responsibilities:

· Preparation of commitment letters, renewal contracts and additional legal documents for new loan transactions;

· Coordinate with third parties and collect relevant documentation for new loans;

· Mandate external notaries for new files;

· Supervise and support external legal counsel re: ongoing legal matters and act as their main point of contact; and

· Additional responsibilities as directed by the President.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will:

· Be a lawyer and a member of the Barreau du Quebec or a Notary admitted to the Chambre des Notaires (for notaries there is no requirement to receive deeds or to maintain a trust account);

· Have approximately 5+ years of pertinent real estate experience;

· Be fully bilingual – capable of working in both English and French;

· Possess strong drafting and communication skills;

· Have solid judgement and strong business acumen;

· Be capable of working autonomously and as a team;

· Be resourceful, thorough and professional;

· Have strong interpersonal skills; and

· Be client service oriented and have the ability to manage competing priorities.
