Director, Tax & Estate Planning Strategy

Are you a tax lawyer looking to use your background in a Strategic advisory role?*This role can be based in any Canadian city with a client office. Candidates in other centres will be considered if they are able to travel to an office periodically
Our client, a boutique proprietary life insurance solutions provider and consultancy is growing, and looking to add a Director, Tax & Estate Planning Strategy to their team.
In this role, you will lead and work with their high-quality team of established, industry-leading professionals to find the best insurance solutions for business owners and their families in the areas of client succession, estate planning, and tax optimization. You will play a pivotal role in designing, managing, and implementing tailored insurance solutions to meet client objectives
The role will include:
- Collaborating with the firm’s ultra-high net worth clients and their advisors to identify objectives and define the most impactful and tailored solutions along with their technical design and analytics teams
- Providing strategic advice on estate, wealth, and insurance structures for optimal business objectives and tax efficiencies.
- Providing direction and guidance on tax matters, drawing on your expertise and creativity to develop innovative solutions to complex issues to achieve business objectives.
- Reviewing and evaluating business, tax, insurance and risk management strategies to identify issues and proactively advise on potential risks and opportunities.
- Leading successful solution implementation and strategic client service review to ensure that the solution reflects clients’ current and future needs
- Actively developing solutions skills through transactional work
- Participating in new idea development using competitive intelligence and proprietary IP to enhance solutions offerings
- Actively developing sales and networking skills, working directly with Principals and Associate Principals on key pursuit teams
- Acting as ambassador for the company, promoting their mission and values
- Fostering teamwork and effective communication within the organization.
You are the ideal candidate if you have/are:
- JD/LLB degree; advanced tax degree (LL.M. in Taxation) an asset
- Additional designations an asset (CPA, MBA, CFA, CLU, TEP, FEA )
- Expertise in tax law and estate and tax planning for private enterprises
- Proven exceptional leadership and integrity
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian insurance, banking, and tax and estate planning
- Complete understanding of the corporate and personal tax/accounting cycle
- Excellent verbal and written communication and ability to deliver complex technical presentations to stakeholders
- Knowledge of the life insurance industry, its products, regulations, and trends is an asset
- Ability to establish rapport with clients and colleagues
- Forward-thinking and results-driven with strong problem-solving skills
- Flexibility, adaptability, and a client-service focus
- Initiative, multitasking, and regulatory compliance experience
- Experience in a team-oriented, results-oriented, collaborative, customer service-focused environment
- Business development acumen or interest an asset
