Personal Injury Junior Associate Lawyer

Overview

Our client, a well-established boutique Personal Injury firm is looking to grow its Toronto office. They are looking for a Personal Injury Junior Associate Lawyer with 1 or more years’ experience (more experience is welcome!) in plaintiff personal injury or insurance defence. 
 
 
This position has the opportunity for bonuses and practice development and will involve the carriage of your own files, in addition to assisting senior counsel.

Responsibilities:
In this role you will be responsible for:
 
  • Provide candid, strategic advice to a diverse range of clients.
  • Positively engage your team and conduct regular file reviews to effectively plan and manage each case.
  • Draft a range of documents including facta, opinion letters, settlement conference memoranda, pleadings and various applications.
  • Conduct legal research.
  • The opportunity to work on all aspects of a case including liability, financial and medical investigations.
  • Attend examinations for discovery, case conferences, mediations, IBC and other insurance conferences, motions, appeals, pre-trial conferences, trials, and mediations/arbitrations and other hearings at the LAT, etc.
  • Attend settlement negotiation.
 
Requirements:
You are the ideal candidate if you have/are:
 
  • 1+ years experience (more experience welcome!).
  • Law Degree (JD or LLB) from an accredited Canadian Law School.
  • A Law Degree from another common law jurisdiction.
  • Applicants who obtained their law degree outside of Canada must be approved by the NCA.
  • A member in good standing with LSO.
  • Able to manage a practice on your own.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and interest in personal injury law.
  • Client-centric focused with a proven passion to make a difference.
  • Solution and client service-oriented.
  • The ability to independently research and analyze applicable law and matters.
  • Mediation and trial experience are an asset.
  • Insurance defence experience would be an asset.
  • Experience in Small Claims Court, the License Appeal Tribunal, and Superior Court.
  • Strong legal research skills and the ability to synthesize information into clear and persuasive legal argument.
