This is a unique opportunity to join a pioneering team.
As a Conflicts Lawyer, you will assess legal and commercial conflicts of interest issues under applicable professional rules, across many jurisdictions.
No prior conflicts experience is required. Our client will be providing full training to allow you to thrive, as you utilize your legal practice skills in this emerging Canadian practice.
Your responsibilities will Include:
- Assessing whether the firm can take on a range of client mandates, and how best to achieve this goal
- Reviewing and assessing potential high-profile mandates
- Developing search strategies, conducting, reviewing and analyzing legal conflicts of interest and confidential information issues arising from a range of complex potential and existing matters, new clients and lateral partner hires, across various practice areas
- Proposing and managing commercially appropriate resolutions
- Advising on the Firm's strategic sector and client interests in commercial conflicts
- Facilitating discussions between partners and stakeholders firmwide to navigate and resolve conflicts
- Drafting and reviewing conflicts-related language for client engagement letters and terms, providing related advice on potential conflicts issues
- Assessing conflicts issues and preparing commercially appropriate responses to high value RFPs
- Informing lawyers and professionals about the firm's conflicts rights and obligations under existing client engagement agreements
You are the ideal candidate if you have/are:
- JD/LLB and 2- 5 years’ experience as a lawyer at an international business law firm, or a large national law firm
- Qualified to practice in a Canadian, US, UK or similar jurisdiction.
- Strong high-level knowledge of a variety of practice areas to understand where possible conflicts issues may arise within them
- Excellent commercial acumen
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines effectively
- Exhibit diligence and attention to detail, with a systematic and organized approach to tasks
- Maintain confidentiality and exercises discretion with sensitive information
- Demonstrate strong collaborative skills, and are able to work effectively with colleagues at all levels within the Firm
- Apply sound judgment, making informed decisions and staying calm in challenging situations
- Take a proactive approach, with a client-centered mindset and the ability to apply problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve issues
- Communicate clearly and effectively, managing difficult situations with poise and within tight deadlines
