Our client, the voice of and representing over 10 000 union members, is looking to add a Staff Representative – Labour Relations to its collegial Vancouver team.
 
The Staff Representative-Labour Relations provides high-level labour relations support to member locals and expert advice to the organization’s leadership, committees, and other stakeholders, across a variety of areas including, contract administration, grievance handling, and collective agreement interpretation and negotiation. It offers a diverse range of labour relations work with great hours and benefits.
 
As a trusted advisor to union members and related parties, this role is dynamic in nature and assures that no two days are the same.
 
Job Responsibilities Include:
 
The successful candidate will:
  • Contract negotiation and administration
  • Collective agreement interpretation/negotiation and ensuring proper implementation of the agreement
  • Grievances handling
  • Provide focused training and education for stewards, bargainers, and local officers.
  • Supporting local members and assisting with how they can utilize their locals
Requirements:
 
The successful candidate will have:
  • A law degree AND previous experience in collective bargaining, arbitration, and labour relations gained in a firm or in-house in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of organized labour and union governance.
  • Strong communication skills for report-writing, correspondence, and public speaking.
  • Experience teaching courses and workshops in labour relations.
  • Proven success in demanding labour relations environments.
  • Ability to build positive, productive working relationships with union leadership and employer representatives.
  • Understanding of labour movement goals and organizing principles.
  • Experience in union organizing is an asset.
