Director, Professional Development (6+ Years) Tier 1 Law Firm
Overview
One of Canada's Tier one firms is looking for a Professional Development Director for their Vancouver office.
As an integral member of the firm, the Director will be responsible for the office's professional development and career development programs, performance management, talent retention and acquisition strategies.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for student and associate programs for legal professionals in the region and oversee all of student and lateral recruitment (hiring, mentoring, training, work allocation and performance reviews).
Responsibilities include:
- Management and oversight of all student and lateral associate recruitment from hiring and mentoring to training, work allocation and performance reviews.
- This involves recruiting top students and associates to the firm; effectively communicating the firm's market position as a leading employer in the legal space and devising ways to brand the firm to convey that.
- Manage the Firm's relationships with law school students, staff, administrators and faculty, as well as the Firm's presence at law schools and other sponsorship and profile building opportunities
- Management and oversight of the firm's assessment and selection processes for student and lateral associate hiring,
- Reporting to and working collaboratively with the Regional Managing Partner and in collaboration with the General Manager, Business Unit Managers, Head of Human Resources to align the office’s strategic objectives with the firm’s overall vision
- Managing the Firm's relationship with representatives of regional legal recruiting agencies.
- Offering proactive advice, services and strategies to ensure that firm maintains their reputation as an employer of choice in the Canada Legal Services Sector.
- A law degree (J.D. or LLB),
- A Minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience in human resources/recruitment in professional services within a Law Firm Setting.
- Highly-developed interpersonal, communication, organizational time & management skills
- Ability to develop strategic initiatives and delivering supporting tactics.
- Knowledgeable in HR best practices and employment law.
- Well-versed in the Law Society of BC's rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Excellent client relationship management skills, with Partners and Associates of the Firm
- Proven track record of management, strong leadership, organizational, delegation, time management and supervisory skills
- Exercise discretion and maintains confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
- Acquainted with law school recruitment cycles and procedures.
- Savvy in marketing, relationship-building, and enhancing firm profile.
- A collaborative team player who works well working independently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
