Senior In-House Counsel (Real Estate)

Overview

Our client, a leading Vancouver based real estate development and investment company in Vancouver is looking to add an experienced Real Estate Lawyer as their dedicated Legal Counsel
 
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and/or the Chief Operating Officer the Legal Counsel will provide legal advice and support to the company on a range of real estate matters while overseeing the company's legal compliance and mitigating risk.
 
Responsibilities:
 
The Successful Candidate will:
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to the company on all aspects of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, financing, leasing, and development.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of legal documents and contracts, including purchase and sale, leases, financing, construction contracts, employment agreements, and other related documents.
  • Conduct due diligence on real estate properties, including title review, environmental assessments, and other relevant investigations.
  • Manage and oversee litigation matters, working closely with external counsel as needed.
  • Advise on regulatory compliance matters related to real estate development and property management, including zoning, building codes, and environmental regulations.
  • Keep abreast of changes in real estate law and regulations and provide updates to the company.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including development, finance, and property management teams.
  • Instruct and manage external legal counsel when necessary.
  • Develop and implement legal policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience practicing real estate law, with experience in a corporate setting.
  • Strong knowledge of real estate law, contract law, property law, leasing and financing.
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating complex real estate agreements and construction contracts.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
