Legal Counsel - Fintech

Overview


Our client, a global payments technology company, is looking to add a Legal Counsel to their growing team.  As Legal Counsel, you will provide legal advisory support to all departments with a focus on commercial matters and regulatory compliance.
 
Your responsibilities will Include:
  
    • Drafting, revising and negotiating a variety of merchant, banking, supplier, and
    • software agreements, as well as any other commercial agreements
    • Provide final line of review for all commercial agreements,
    • Advising the business on various ad hoc legal issues as they arise and work with various business units on multidisciplinary projects
    • Staying up to date on applicable payment and related laws, regulations, policies, case law etc. affecting the business, in various jurisdictions and reporting same to the senior management
    • Working with legal and compliance team to respond to inquiries from product end-users
    • Creating and supporting continuous improvements of policies and processes and helping to implement new document management system
    • Proactively identifying and addressing potential risks
    • Explaining complex legal issues in plain language to internal
    • Other legal/compliance-related research or tasks as required
  
You are the ideal candidate if you have/are:
  • JD/LLB and a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario or other provincial Bar
  • 3-5+ years of relevant experience (more experience welcomed!)
  • Strong ability to draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements
  • Ability to provide the final review of commercial agreements with no oversight
  • Good understanding of corporate and commercial law
  • Knowledge of laws and legal issues affecting the online payments and/or the gaming industry
  • A demonstrated interest or experience in tech, fintech, gaming & gambling, or other regulated industry
  • Sound and practical business judgment and ability to handle pressure and manage multiple, high-priority, competing projects and deadlines
  • A desire to provide pragmatic advice to business teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communicator and collaborative team player with a creative, positive, and energetic approach to problem-solving and achieving results
  • Adaptable and proactive in fast-paced environments, continuously learning and evolving to better support customers and team goals
  • Ability to explain complex legal issues in plain language
  • Ability to think ahead and help minimize potential risks
