An amazing opportunity for an Experienced Patent Agent/Counsel (MINIMUM of 6 years) with physics and/or engineering background to join a leading Medical
Technology Company.

Our Client develops and markets cutting edge imaging technologies for surgical procedures. This innovating technology is revolutionary in its ability to assist surgeons in the operating room while significantly improving surgical outcomes and minimizing post-operative complications.

Reporting to the VP of Technology, the Patent Director will be responsible for the Company’s Intellectual Property matters as well as assisting with Corporate/M&A and strategic matters relating to the organization’s corporate growth strategy. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the team acting, as the point of contact for the company’s outside counsel, associates, business partners and patent offices.


The candidate will:
• Manage and maintain the Intellectual property portfolio (i.e. Patents, Trademarks, logos, copyrights) for the organization to ensure:
1. Timely review and response to correspondence
2. Timely management of invoices, calendar & dockets
• Oversee various strategic and corporate functions
• Conduct Trademark searches for registrability and prepare recitation of goods and services for proposed filings.
• File applications, respond to office actions, conduct interviews with patent offices, as required
• Liaise with external counsel as required, for the prosecution and litigation of IP
• Develop programs to develop IP generation and capture and process invention disclosures arising
• Participate in shaping corporate technology strategy by developing and conducting patentability, freedom to operate and patent searches for clearance, filing, licensing, enforcement, due diligence and disclosure processes
• Assist internal technical experts with development and documentations of IP
• Conduct and prepare detailed summaries on complimentary and competitive technologies
• Perform work in accordance with all application regulations, standards and guidelines, and with the provision of the Quality Policy and applicable SOPs and all other corporate/departmental policies and procedures



You are the ideal candidate if you:

• Are a Patent Agent
• Have Post Secondary Education in a scientific/technical discipline (Physics/Engineering/Optics)
• A law degree and prior experience as an IP Counsel would be an asset but is not required
• Have strong knowledge of IP matters and at LEAST 5 YEARS of exposure and/or experience in IP prosecution, litigation and strategy
• Demonstrated interest in technology innovation
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of employees
• Strong attention to details and excellent analytical skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Be results oriented and strong team player, disciplined in delivery of work product
• Have the ability to function in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
• Proficient with personal productivity software
