Our client, a privately held mortgage finance company specializing in short-term residential and commercial mortgages is looking for an in-house notary or lawyer on a contract basis (6 months) for its Montreal office.

This is a unique opportunity to work in an entrepreneurial work environment, while maintaining a good work-life balance and having a manageable work schedule with the possibility of a 4-days/week arrangement.


• Draft and review commitment letters for new loan transactions and prepare legal documents related to such transactions
• Mandate and manage external counsel (notaries) responsible for files
• Act as point of contact for external referring sources
• Coordinate and collect relevant documentation for each loan transaction
• Undertake file due diligence including index review
• Support legal enforcement efforts
• All such other responsibilities as directed by President and Vice President


• Notary or real estate/financing lawyer (admitted to Chambre des notaires or Barreau du Québec)
• 5+ years experience performing the tasks listed above
• Credibility to liaise with professionals in the industry
• Strong drafting skills
• Good judgment
• Autonomous but able to follow instructions
• Resourceful, thorough and demonstrates professionalism
• Client service oriented and can manage priorities
• Bilingual – able to work in both French and English
