Our client is a newly established Claims Management & Adjusting firm. They are looking to hire the company’s first President.
Reporting in to the Board of Directors, the President will have the unique opportunity to wear both business and legal hats. This exciting role will involve all elements of setting up and running the business, as well as handling all claims management and adjusting functions.

This role will likely appeal to an entrepreneurial lawyer/ claims professional who has both business experience, as well as having a technical background in the management of professional liability insurance claims.

The role will include:
Company Set Up-
• Developing a detailed operational plan and budget for the first two years of the company’s operations
• Establishing all company policies and procedures
• Recruiting and hiring of required personnel
• Establishing acceptable claims management agreements between the company, insurers and client organizations.
• Securing personal licensure as an adjuster in all provinces
• Developing the claims management process and protocols, as well as reporting policies for all claims
• Developing transition plans to transfer the management of any claims currently being managed by alternate Clams management entities
• Preparing all forms, materials and web content for claims management
• Developing a company marketing and communications strategy
• Developing the IT infrastructure, including acquisition of software necessary to maintain claims files
• Sourcing and establishing a physical office space

Company Management-
• Overseeing all aspects of the Claims Management process- including providing third party administration, claims adjustment, litigation management and risk management services
• Developing close working relationships with insurers
• Managing a team of various professional and support staff
• Successfully controlling costs, reducing the life span of claims, giving proper direction to defense counsel and taking into account the economic interests of all concerned parties


You are the ideal candidate if you:

• Have an LL.B/ JD, and are a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada or other Canadian Bar or have experience in Claims Management and Adjusting
• Have experience with claims management
• Have experience handling professional liability cases
• Are entrepreneurial and business minded
• Have experience with starting or managing a business
• Have excellent decision making, and organizational skills
• Are self-motivated, resourceful, innovative and work well with minimal supervision
• Are a strong team player
• Are able to organize, multitask and manage many competing interests within tight timelines
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Have specialized knowledge of or familiarity with professional liability claims
• Have excellent analytical and managerial skills
• Familiarity with claims management software is an asset
• Bilingualism is an asset but not required
