Our client is a National professional regulatory body. They are looking to hire a lawyer to fill the role of Director of Professional Standards and Tribunal.

Reporting to the President and CEO, as part of the senior management team, you will head up the newly created Complaints and Professional Standards department. The Director will be involved with all aspects of the organizations Complaints and Discipline mandate and operations and will oversee the receipt, investigation, and prosecution of alleged breaches of professional responsibility of its members.

The role will include:

• Developing policy and protocols to support enforcement and licensing decisions;
• Providing advice and support on regulatory and legislative matters;
• Drafting templates of Registrar and Complaints/Discipline Committee orders and decisions;
• Assisting other departments with legal review of new draft administrative regulations and policies
• Supporting and managing litigation such as applications for judicial review of disciplinary decisions of the organizations tribunals;


You are the ideal candidate if you:

• Have an LL.B/ JD, and are a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada or other Canadian Bar;
• Have 5-10 years of relevant litigation and legal knowledge with a focus on regulatory or administrative law;
• Have experience conducting administrative prosecutions and in providing independent legal counsel to adjudicative panels;
• Have experience in advising on, or conducting inquiries or proceedings related to professional regulatory licensing bodies;
• Have experience as in-house complaints and discipline counsel to a regulator;
• Have experience appearing before administrative tribunals;
• Have experience with the management of a regulatory/licensing body or administrative tribunal;
• Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
• Have excellent analytical and managerial skills;
• Are able to build and maintain strong and effective working relationships with multiple stakeholders which sometimes have competing interests;
• Bilingualism is an asset but not required
