Our client, a leader in the construction materials industry, is looking to add an In-House Legal Counsel to its team. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, the In-House Legal Counsel will be a member of a busy law department and have regular exposure to business leaders. In this role you will provide legal advice and counsel to internal clients at all levels, support day-to-day initiatives and long-term strategies of the company.

Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing timely advice and counsel to internal clients on various legal topics (contracts, employment, real property, etc.)
• Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various contracts including: purchase and sales agreements, purchase orders, service agreements, rental agreements, confidentiality agreements, leases and terms and conditions
• Researching and analyzing legal issues and writing summaries/memos
• Assisting in gathering documentation and information in response to subpoenas and litigation discovery requests
• Assisting in developing company policies, procedures, and guidelines on legal issues
• Assisting in analyzing and resolving legal disputes with various parties
• Researching, anticipating, and mitigating legal risks regarding business decisions and operations
• Preparing summaries of the status of litigation and other legal matters for Associate General Counsel, Canada Region
• Conducting internal investigations, as necessary
• Providing in-house legal training on various legal topics
• Handling other legal matters and duties as assigned


You are the ideal candidate if you have/are:
• 3-5 years of corporate/commercial legal experience
• A J.D./LL.B and member in good standing in Law Society in Canada
• Ability to work independently – but knowing when to ask questions
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, oral communication, and writing skills
• Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships within the company’s legal department and across all businesses
• Strong analytical ability and attention to detail
• Experience in the construction space is an asset
