Our client, a world leading electricity producer, is looking to add a Labour & Employment Counsel to its team.

Reporting to the General Counsel and working closely with the Labour Relations, and HR team, the Labour & Employment Counsel will provide strategic value to the business as well as performing hands on labour and employment work.

* Note: This organization is located in a smaller centre in Ontario. The Legal Team is currently working remotely, but will return to the office in person at a future date, and will require the Labour & Employment Counsel to be working on site at that time.

Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing timely advice and counsel on labour relations and employment law issues
• Managing day-to-day grievances, mediations and arbitrations.
• Arguing complex cases at arbitration involving various collective agreements
• Leading mediations and negotiating fair and reasonable settlements on behalf of the Company
• Providing advice to the Senior Management team and other members of the executive team on Labour & Employment legal issues.
• Identifying, monitoring, and providing updates on case law, legislative developments, and Labour & employment law and legal trends.


You are the ideal candidate if you have/are:
• 7-15+ years of legal experience practicing in labour/employment law either in-house or in private practice
• Knowledge and experience in provincial labour law, employment law and health and safety law
• Experience working in a unionized environment
• A J.D./LL.B and member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
• Excellent organization, planning and time-management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines under pressure
• Ability to effectively communicate to Senior Management and external stakeholders
• Strong and persuasive legal writing skills and oral advocacy skills.
• Exceptional communication, and negotiation skills.
