Our client, a governmental organization in Ottawa, is looking to add a Law Clerk to their growing team. Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, this is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated Law Clerk to provide a wide range of legal services in a fast-paced legal environment. This role is on a contract basis, with potential for permanence. This role is remote.

In this role you will be responsible for:

• Providing support on a variety of law-related activities that do not require a law degree;
• Performing a variety of law-related tasks under the direction of the organization's lawyers;
• Performing a variety of duties and responsibilities typically performed by a Law Clerk within a finance/insurance transactional and non-transactional corporate environment;
• Conduct legal research, drafts or preparing legal documents, particularly for finance related activities, and performing other related duties;
• Drafting documentation such loan agreements and guarantees, and amendments, insurance policies and endorsements, performing due diligence and coordinating regulatory and security filings in the context of financing and insurance transactions;
• Performing administrative duties that require knowledge of legal procedures and terminology;
• Assisting counsel in managing the flow of transactional and non-transactional requests for advice or documentation;
• Assisting General Counsel in the context of making or updating Corporate regulatory filing
• Updating informational databases.


The ideal candidate will:
• Have a University degree preferably with a focus on some Legal or Legal related subjects or a Law Clerk College diploma or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience;
• Minimum of 1 to 3 years of legal background experience as an administrator, support staff, legal assistant, contracts manager or similar position in a fast paced legal or legal-related professional environment;
• Have strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
• Have superior time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and multitask with minimal supervision;
• Be considered an asset if they are bilingual in both official languages (French and English).
